Paul Bazelaire

Paul Bazelaire is a Violoncelliste French born with Sedan (the Ardennes) the March 4th 1886, and died with Paris the December 11th 1958.

Biography

At 7 years, then raises college Turenne of Sedan, it begins the study of the Violoncelle thanks to Jean-Nicolas-Henri Clarinval, excellent Directeur of the Philharmonic Company of Sedan. At 10 years, it enters to the Conservatoire of Paris the class of Jules Delsart. 11 years old only, it gains a first price of violoncello unanimously, made single in annals of the Academy. It also obtains there its first prices of Harmonie, counterpoint and Fugue. In the class of Xavier Leroux, it gains the first price of harmony at 17 years. Wishing to continue until the end its studies of composition, he works the counterpoint and the running away with Georges Caussade and Charles Lenepveu. At 19 years, it again obtains a first price of running away and counterpoint.

Its first concert was for its birthplace, Sedan, the December 18th 1897.

He works the Orgue with Louis Vierne. In a few months, it becomes famous.

Appointed professor with the national Academy Higher of Paris in 1918 than the 32 years age, it will teach there until the 70 years age, in. It will thus on the occasion to be there a colleague of Jules Léopold Lœb, of Gerard Hekking, Pierre Fournier, Maurice Maréchal, André Navarra. Remarkable pedagog, it sticks passionately to the teaching of the violoncello and from very many pupils come to join his school: Queen Flachot, Guy Hand lantern… In 1958, the year of its death, it worked with arrangements for two violoncellos and Harpe for a Trio being composed of his second wife, Monique Viaudez, and of her two sisters.
