Paul Atréides
Paul Oreste Atréides is a character of fiction of the Cycle of Dune, of Frank Herbert. He is also called Usul by the Fremen of the Sietch Tabr, and Muad' Dib by the others Sietchs.
He is the main character of the first two volumes (Dune and the Messiah of Dune), and reappears in the Children of Dune in another form. Its heritage is then latent in the other tome cheeses of the series.
Education
Wire of the Duke Leto Atréides and his concubine Bucket Gesserit Jessica, it receives its first first name of his large paternal father Paulus Atréides and the second, Oreste, of the myth of Agamemnon base of Atréides. It is born on the planet Kaitain in the palate from Shaddam IV and misses being assassinated by the first Ghola Piter de Vries, the Mentat of Vladimir Harkonnen. It is saved only by the intervention of the empress Anirul, who pays it her life.
Youth
Ram Jessica, Bene Gesserit, fall in love with Leto, duke Atréides with whom it is supposed to procreate to continue the genetic plan of selection of her Kind. It gives birth to a boy, instead of the girl requested. The Paul young person is high according to the methods of the Révérendes Mères, and passes successfully the test of the Gom Jabbar, shake-down test to the physical pain which must determine its humanity. The Bene Gesserit already suspects it of being the Kwisatz Haderach, the ultimate result of the genetic program, because of its physical capacities of very high level.Paul passes his youth on Caladan, planet of origin of his father and source of the influence of the Atréides. He continues his life on Arrakis, called Dune by his inhabitants, when his/her father receives it in stronghold of the emperor Shaddam IV. He takes very young share with the complex political intrigues of the large houses, at the sides of his father who trusts him completely.
With the assassination of sound father, at the time of the plot set up by the Harkonnens with the complicity of Shaddam IV, it takes refuge with its mother at the Fremen which adopt them. Its mother, enclosure of a girl, drinks brandy of spice at the time of a Orgie Tau Fremen. What gives access to him totality of the memories of its ancestors, and wakes up the conscience of the fetus that it carries. This girl, Combined, sister of Paul, is thus born with the personality from a woman carrying the experiment from the members from her family tree, of which the baron Vladimir Harkonnen his large father. Paul, who starts to express gifts of Mentat and Prescience, takes the name of Muad' Dib, the mouse of the desert and becomes the Mahdi Fremen, their guide, identified with the awaited Messiah.
Reign
He carries out his troops Fremen, in particular his guard of elite of the feydakins, at the victory against the Harkonnen, and manages to immobilize the vessel of the emperor. This last being then on Dune to check the effects of the plot Harkonnen. It beats the Harkonnens then, and threatens the emperor Shaddam IV. This one is tiny room to propose the marriage with his/her daughter, the princess Irulan. Paul uses this marriage to return his legitimate power and thus becomes the emperor, while warning the princess who it is only the base of her capacity and whom no intimacy will never create for itself between them, only Chani, his/her Fremen concubine, will carry her children and will receive his love. During all its engagements, he seeks to avoid the jihad that he envisages thanks to his gifts of Prescience and Mentat, but ends up understanding that this jihad is inevitable because inherent in the culture Fremen. He thus launches these Fremen in the jihad through all the universe known to make float the green flag of the Atréides on many worlds.After twelve years of jihad, it has finally two twins of its concubine Fremen Chani: Leto and Ghanima. Chani dies in their birth and him, blind man because of radiations of a burn-stone, used against him at the time of an attack. It leaves then only in the desert according to the tradition Fremen. Regency is assumed by the aunt of the twins, Alia, which will derive towards a religious dictatorship. Paul reappears in the shape of the prechor in the Children of Dune, calling with the revolt in the capital Arrakeen against excesses of the worship of his person instilled by his sister. He is finally killed after being found by his son Leto, who then begins again to be able with the hands of Alia.
Paul like his children, east prescient, i.e. it can read the future. It is what will enable him to overcome its enemies but it is also what will bring its loss when he refuses to assume the responsibility for the Sentier of Gold. It is his/her son who will continue finally this way.
