Paul Arnal

Paul Arnal (June 7th 1871, Florac, Lozere - May 17th 1950, Nimes, Gard) is known as being the speleologist founder of the Cevennes Club, association with the service of the Causses and the the Cevennes.

Biography

Born from a family of craftsmen bakers, it follows secondary studies to the college of Mende, then with the college of Nimes. In 1896, he is graduate in theology of the faculty of Protestant theology of Paris. Initially Pasteur with Cassagnas, then with Vebron (1896 - 1910) and finally with Uzès (1910 - 1937), it takes his retirement with Nimes.

The September 18th 1894 with Florac, it founds the Cevennes Club with other young followers of the speleologist Edouard-Alfred Martel. Besides there will remain general secretary of association until his death.

He is also the inventor in 1908, on the plate of the Causse Méjean, of the site of Nimes-the-Old man, a dolomitic rock chaos.
