Patum

Patum de Berga is a traditional and popular festival taking place in the town of Berga (located at the north of Barcelona). It consists of a series of stage performances and processions of various characters in the street. The presence of fires and pyrotechny, like a great citizen participation, of it are characteristic.

November 25th, 2005 UNESCO declared Patum “Masterpiece of the Oral and Immaterial Patrimoine of Humanity”.

History

Patum was born in XIVeme century. At that time it was called “Bulla”. Probably it is the result of the sacralization of ancestral festivals.
