Patrick Stewart is a British actor born in Mirfield (Yorkshire) the July 13rd 1940.
Biography
The theater is in the center of the life of this actor. It begins at the nine years age in the role from Tom off Towngate and when it enters to the college at the 12 years age, it perseveres while following courses of theater. After a reading aloud of Shylock in front of all his class, its professor would have said to him: “Stewart, you have talent. You should make a career with the theater. ”
At 15 years, it leaves the school and is invested in the productions of the local theater. In parallel, he writes in a daily newspaper but his employer the met quickly in residence to choose between the theater and journalism. He thus resigns to devote himself exclusively to his career of actor.
Patrick Stewart is 17 years old when it is registered with the courses of theater of the Old Vic of Bristol. After a passage by the Library Theater of Manchester, it joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966. He plays then sides of actors such as Ben Kingsley, Ian Richardson, David Suchet and much of others. With the beginning of the year 1980, it joined the Royal National Theater. Stewart appears also on television in small roles among which that of Séjan in Me Claude emperor ( I Claudius ) and that of Claudius in an adaptation of Hamlet for BBC.
With the cinema, one discovers it in Excalibur of John Boorman in 1981 (where it incarnates Leodegran, the father of the queen Guenièvre) as in the adaptation of Dune by David Lynch in 1984 (it interprets there the fencing master Gurney Halleck).
In 1987, during a conference on Shakespeare with UCSB, Stewart is noticed for a role in Star Trek: The new generation ( Star Trek: The Next Generation). He thus endorses the uniform of the Picard captain during 7 years (of 1987 with 1994) on television then in the feature-length films derived from the universe created by Gene Roddenberry ( Star Trek: Generations , which joins together the crew of the first and the second series, Star Trek: First Contact , Star Trek: Insurrection and Star Trek: Nemesis ).
It in parallel meets Wendy Neuss on the plate of Star Trek and the wife the August 25th 2000 (before divorcing the October 14th 2003).
Its cinematographic career continues with X-Men (2001) where it incarnates the professor Charles Xavier, role whom it endorses in the second and the third opus X-Men 3 , left in 2006.
It also appears in telefilms such as Moby Dick , where it plays the part of the famous captain Achab. Its production company enables him moreover to carry out projects which are due to him in heart. One thus sees it as a Simon de Canterville in the Phantom of Canterville ( The Canterville Ghost ), as a John Lear in an adaptation of the part of Shakespeare version " western" entitled King off Texas and more recently at the sides of Glenn Close in a remake of Lion in Winter .
Patrick Stewart does not forsake the theater for as much and between its periods of turning, it finds readily the boards. In 1991, it thus assembles its own adaptation of the Conte of Christmas ( has Christmas Carol ) Charles Dickens. It plays there all the characters with a success such as the experiment will be reiterated in 1992 (it is then rewarded by a Drama Desk Award), in 1994 (it receives this year the Laurence Olivier Awards), in 1996 then in 2001 with the profit of the victims' families of the attacks of September 11th.
In 1997, it created the surprise by playing Othello in a version " inversée" (as on the negative one of a photographic stereotype…) part of Shakespeare. Othello thus becomes a white in a black company. In 1998, Stewart in addition incarnates Prospero in a setting in scene of the Storm ( The Tempest ) of Shakespeare presented to Broadway where it returns starting from 2000 in has Wrinkle Down Mount Morgan then Johnson over Jordan . In 2003 it returns on scene to the the United Kingdom for has Master Builder (a signed part Ibsen) before setting out again for New York in order to interpret there the role of Davies in The Caretaker of Harold Pinter at the sides of Kyle MacLachlan (with which it had already on the occasion to play in Dune ).
In 2004, Stewart announces finally its decision to leave the the United States (it will have lived 18 years all the same there) for its fatherland of origin while specifying that it does not intend to give up its cinematographic career on the other side of the Atlantic.
besides 2005 offers the occasion to him to alternate theater, television and cinema. It appears thus on the boards in has Life At the Theater , sign a 16 month old contract with the Royal Shakespeare Company and occurs in December for its from now on traditional Conte of Christmas . In parallel, it accepts a role in the new production of the chain ITV entitled The Eleventh Hour , replaces Jude Law in the televised series Extras and turns the third shutter of the X-Men for the big screen.
The actor recently declared that it would be possibly ready to take again the role of Jean-Luc Picard at the sides of the other actors of Star Trek: The new generation for a new film on the condition of being still in age, at the time of the catches of sight, to play some scenes of action.
Patrick Stewart was named officer about the British Empire in 2001 and Chancelier of the university of Huddersfield. Its last visit on the spot took place on November 17th 2005, at the time of the inauguration of the building of Students Local union.
