Patrick Phelan
Mgr Patrick Phelan (1795-1857) was the third bishop of Kingston.
Born in Ireland the 1795, he was the first priest ordered by Mgr Lartigue on September 24th, 1825, in the church of Saint-Jacob of Montreal. He became member of the Séminaire of Saint-Sulpice in 1826.
The pope Gregoire XVI, by a bubble dated February 20th, 1843, appointed it bishop of Carrha In partibus, and Coadjuteur of Kingston. He was crowned under this title, on August 20th, 1843, in the parish church of Montreal by Mgr Le Bourget. Named apostolic administrator of the diocese of Kingston on January 30th, 1852, he became bishop in title of Kingston on May 8th, 1857
He only occupied the seat only one month, and died the next, on June 6th 62 years old, and was buried in his cathedral.
