His/her father, Kenneth Cowley, are deceased in January 2005 with 85 years while his/her mother, Ellen, disappeared 13 month after death from her son in December 1983.

He studied with the college of Buffalo where he played of the battery, the keyboard and the guitar in local small groups. He played primarily of ear of the simple songs. His/her parents supported it in its dreams of musqiue, the battery was installed in the garage, with the basement.

21 years old, it leaves Rochester in 1971 for Bay of San Francisco and begins studies of electronic music (Synthétiseur) at the University of San Francisco (City College off San Francisco).

In 1972, Jerry Mueller created the " Electronic Music Lab " in its basement with 3 students: Arthur Adcock, Jerry Judnick and Patrick Cowley. Six months later they will be joined by Maurice Tani.

At that time there were only 3 marks of Synthétiseur S available: Moog which was most popular but very expensive, Buchla so expensive and Putney manufactured in the United Kingdom which was cheap. Jerry Mueller bought a Putney with a matrix with " pin" instead of connections with cables. It passed then to a system E-mu (that Patrick Cowley used) and finally a Synthétiseur Serge. It is the only analogical material which remains in the studio of the university in 2005.

  • Dance Your Ace Off (in North Beach)
  • The City (between Montgomery and Broadway)

In the basements, Sylvester and its group made spectacles where he played a demonstration of " You Make Me Feel" whose Patrick Cowley made modern arrangements later.

Its career as type-setter began when Sylvester required of him to join it in its studio after having listened to its compositions with the Synthétiseur S (" Kickin' In" , " Coil to Me Hot"). Thus their collaboration in 1978 started, the integration of the synthetizers of Patrick Cowley in music R&B (Rythm and Blues) of Sylvester, the round in South America and Europe.
