Biography

Born the November 12th 1947 with Paris, it passes its childhood to Tours, turning as of 15 years of small films of amateur. It goes up to Paris in 1967 to follow the Littré course, then between with IDHEC. It takes part in the Cahiers of the Cinema and launches out with more or less of happiness in the Short-measuring. In parallel, it contributes to the newspaper Pilote of 1970 with 1974, producing boards of a great originality and carries out many advertizing films.

Its first feature-length films pass unperceived or are badly received. In 1975, it launches out in a more ambitious project, by adapting characters of Gotlib with Jean Rochefort and Coluche: vécés was closed interior . the film is badly received by criticism and its results disappoint taking into consideration head of posters. Patrice Leconte starts to believe that it made false route in the cinema and accentuates his advertizing career. In 1977, it accepts a last project, the adaptation to the screen of a part of theater workshop: Crustacean and shells , famous with the Bronzed screen the . And the film is one of greatest successes of the French cinema.

During ten years a series of comedies follows, generally around the actors of the Splendid, Coluche, Bernard Giraudeau, Gerard Lanvin, etc which often meet success ( Viens at home, I live in a girlfriend , the Specialists ).

It decides to change register and carries out three consecutive films in complete shift with its preceding productions: Gerard Jugnot shaves his moustache for Tandem by giving the counterpart to a Jean Rochefort on the return and pathetic. It completely makes a new adaptation of a novel of Georges Simenon by revealing a Michel Blanc to against-employment, livid and upsetting in Mr Hire (1989). Then the Husband of the hairdresser (1990) is an unclassable portrait of a man who is not able to love his wife as he would like it. And in the three cases the public accepts this change of style, thanks to the very great care that Leconte brings to the esthetics and the rate/rhythm of film, the management of the tensions and the direction of actors.

The following films are failures and Leconte then changes again register into 1995 while launching out in film in costumes. And Ridicule reconciles it with the public and the critic, at the same time as it enables him to gain the Césars better realizer and better film.

Since, Leconte installed its name in the French cinema, meeting various fortunes, launching out on the occasion in a virulent diatribe against the film critics. In 2005, the team of the Splendid again calls upon him to produce the third shutter of the Bronzés , Bronzed the 3 - Friends for the life left the 2006.

It takes part also sometimes in the emission of Laurent Ruquier, One will obstruct , on Europe 1.

He is married with Agnès Berraud, press attaché of the Cahiers of the Cinema, with which he had two girls.
