Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa (Greek-orthodoxe)

The Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa is the canonical jurisdiction autocéphale of orthodoxe Église in Egypt and in all the Africa. The chief of the Church carries the title of Pape and Patriarche of Alexandria and all Africa , with residence with Alexandria in Egypt (titular current: Its Bliss Theodore II since the October 9th 2004).

The title of Patriarche of Alexandria is currently carried also by two other chiefs of Church.

History

The orthodoxe Church of Alexandria east one of the heiresses of the antique Church of Alexandria which is one of the first Christian Churches. According to the tradition, it would have been rested by the apostle and evangelist Marc.

12th century the Church adopts the Byzantine Rite.

1365 the town of Alexandria east put at bag by the Latin king of Cyprus.

1517 the patriarch settles with Constantinople.

1811 the patriarch is reinstalled in Alexandria.

2007 an orthodoxe seminar (D) opens in Alexandria, after a 460 years interruption.
