Patriarch of Antioche

The title of Patriarche of Antioche is traditionally carried by the bishop of Antioche (in current the Turkey). The Église of Antioche is one of oldest of Christendom.

Today, not less than five chiefs of Church, including three catholic, carry the title of Patriarch of Antioche. None of them resides at Antioche/Antakya since the majority Moslem presence in Turkey.

The Patriarchs of Antioche currently in function are:

  • Its Bliss Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir, Patriarch of Antioche and all East . He is the chief of the Église Maronite and resides at Bkerké with the Lebanon.
  • Its Bliss Ignace Pierre VIII, Patriarch of Antioche and all East . He is the chief of the Catholic church Syriaque and resides at Beirut with the Lebanon.

  • Its Bliss Ignace IV Hazim, Patriarch of Antioche and all East . He is the chief of the orthodoxe Église of Antioche and resides at Damas.

  • Its Bliss Gregoire III Laham, Patriarch of Antioche and all East, of Alexandria and Jerusalem of Melkites . He is the chief of the Église Greek-catholic melkite and resides at Damas.

Until 1964, date of its suppression, there also existed a Latin Patriarche of Antioche founded in 1119 at the time of the Croisades.
