Path of great excursion

The Sigle GR. indicates a path of great excursion . The paths of large Randonnée were traced in France by the French federation of hiking. There exist many routes described in the topoguides published by the federation. In France, the distance cumulated from the GR. is approximately 60.000 kilometers. The paths and the beaconings are maintained by the voluntary ones the federation.

There exist also paths of great excursion of countries (GRP) which are generally in loop. These GR. are intended for discovered of an area.

The terms GR., GRP and the beaconings are registered trademarks.

In Europe, under the aegis of the European Federation of hiking (European Ramblers Association, ERA), it was traced eleven paths European.

Beaconing

The GR. are marked on the ground by a beaconing

  • France, Belgium, Netherlands and Spain: two horizontal features of painting, a red and a white
  • Luxembourg: yellow rectangles or rounds
  • Swiss: horizontal features white-red-white (routes known as of mountain) or yellow rhombuses

The GRP are also marked out. In France the beaconing is identical to the beaconing of the GR. but the white features are replaced by yellow features.
