Patent of operating requirement of organizer of vacation center and leisures

In France, the patent of operating requirement of organizer of vacation centres and leisures , or BAFA , is a Diplôme not professional who authorizes the framing of Enfant S and Adolescent S in Vacation center or of leisures. The Brevet of organizer of vacation centres is the Belgian equivalent of the BAFA.

Framing of the vacation centres

The BAFA is largely recognized in the field of the sociocultural Animation, because in the regular manner, the organizers of vacation centres and leisures are constrained with a framing from at least 1 organizer for 12 children (for the 6 year old older children and more) and 1 organizer for 8 children (for the children of less than 6 years).

The rates of framing concerning the extra-curricular reception are from at least 1 organizer for 14 children (for the 6 year old older children and more) and 1 organizer for 10 children (for the children of less than 6 years).

Among these organizers, at a session:

  • 50% of the team at least must be titular BAFA,
  • 30% of the team can be titular BAFA in the course of formation (training course practices)

  • 20% of the team can be without qualification.

Obtaining the BAFA

Obtaining the BAFA requires 3 obligatory stages:
  • Stage 1: the general course training
  • Stage 2: the training course practices
  • Etape 3: the session of deepening or qualification
These three stages must be carried out in the order and it should not on the whole occur more than 30 months. The file of the candidate is then evaluated by a jury depend on the ministry for youth and sports which is charged to deliver the BAFA.

General training course

It is one eight days duration a theoretical training course, generally in boarding school. The participants must be 17 years old at least at the first day of the training course.

Practical training course

From one duration of at least 14 days or 28 half-days (in one or more time, but with a maximum of 2 different stays, that the organizer is the same one or not), it is a question of being a stimulating trainee.
This training course is evaluated by the director of the stay and can proceed in a stay of holidays (colony) or a reception of leisures (recreational center).
It must take place at the latest 18 months after the theoretical training course.

Session of deepening or qualification

From one six days duration (eight for the qualifications). It is generally devoted to the deepening of a set of themes and the analysis of the practical training course.

The general deepening and training courses are exempted by training companies having an approval of the Ministère of Youth and Sports. This approval can be regional or national. Among the 21 organizations having by the decree of December 6th, 2005 a national approval until the end of 2008 one can quote:

  • Breton Union for the Animation of the Rural Countries (UBAPAR).

  • the UCPA (national union of the sporting centers of outdoor)
