Pâturages is a section of the common Belgian of Colfontaine located in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut.
It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.
Pastures is sprinkled by the brook of Rieu of the Heart, which one should say “chorus” because it took this name of his passage behind the chorus of the church of Frameries. At the time Roman, this territory was inhabited, as many antiquities testify some that one discovered there. The old dependences are Caud-Stone, Chaud stone, perhaps pointing out an outcrop of coal which would have blazed up; " Bottom of Quevau" , where " Cul" mean " fond" (and not " derrière" as that was " traduit" in French) and " vau" who comes from " vaue" , i.e. " voie" , it is thus about the " melts of the voie" , which corresponds very well to the topography of this corner of to extreme the Pastures between Wasmes and Eugies.
At the 14th century
The commune extended, probably, of the way of Binche towards wood the bishop by including/understanding there the street Mitoyenne of Eugies and part of Bouverie. Pastures was then a dependence of Quaregnon. The inhabitants of these communes had the exclusive right make feed their herds, to cut cuts in wood and to draw from sand and the stones (Way of Binche and wood the bishop).
In wood the very close Bishop, the wolves (leus) came to nourish few animals, which caused an immense fear, from where the popular birth of belief. Also when these canidés had disappeared from our told, driven out by the clearers and the builders, one made them places in the legend and the folklore.
At the 14th century until the end of the old mode: these pastures were subjected to the " right of champiage" villages of Frameries, Quaregnon. It is on this territory that is located the first coal mining of laying down Mons.
At the 15th century
In 1410, one found on Pâturages a place says “Casteil the diaule” or Castle of the Devil, like that of Quaregnon. There would it have had there, an old Roman ruin or franque, that the popular one would have baptized this mysterious name?
In XVIe century
In 1772, drawn up in an official list, Pâturages is quoted like village. The abbey of Saint-Ghislain was outlet drain of the parish of Pastures which was dismembered, in 1685, of that of Quaregnon.
Beginning of the XVIIIe century
At the beginning of the XVIIIe century, the extraction of the Houille was done at Pâturages, even or previous century. It is this industry which gave a great extension to the agglomeration become nowadays, one of populeuses of the Borinage.
With the Revolution, the commune was selected like chief town of canton and seat of a cantonal administration.
the XXe century
On Saturday, August 26, 1961: under the patronage of the municipal authorities " El of play Dou leu" took place the first time, on the initiative of Marcel Fléron communal secretary of Pastures. Marcel Fléron thought that, since he existed folk plays like " there; Lumecon " with Mons, why Pâturageois which one still often calls " the leus dou Pasturache" could not it also have to them " leu of légende" ? Sirs the Burgomaster Achilles Delattre and Arthur Nazé alderman of the state education admire the principle at once.
In 1977, like the other communes of the country, Pâturages amalgamated with Wasmes and Warquignies to constitute the new entity of Colfontaine. The name of this entity is a completely special case. It is indeed one of the entities which bears a name other than one of its components. Pastures, Wasmes and Warquignies were forgotten to make place in the name of Colfontaine. To graft a new name on the sensitive skin of Borains could appear a challenge, however the name was adopted without discussion.
This old name Borain comes us mists of time, of with dimensions of Charleroi. It immediately makes think of wood. This splendid green area formed formerly part of the large forest Carbonifère which covered our country. The forest of Mormal in France in the South of Bavay in is vestige.
As of the installation of the Christianity, the abbey of Saint-Ghislain concerned Évêché of Cambrai. This évêché extended on important territories. In the neighborhoods of 110, a lord of Fountain-the Bishop was ordered bishop of Cambric. He was called Colart de Fontaine. The union of these two names gave Colfontaine.
