Passepartout

See also: Pass key

A passepartout (or pass key ) is a many key making it possible to open Serrure S, ideally any of them.

Very much used for simple locks (Lock with trimmings, Lock with throats) they are from now on rarer. Indeed, the pin locks, standard of today, can be positioned in several million configurations (however certain plays of Crochet S still function according to the principle which wants that “one of them will be the good”).

Most known remain famous the key S skeleton, of which those created by Antoine Rossignol for Louis XIV which were supposed to open all the locks of the kingdom.
