Passage Intérieur
The Interior Passage (in English Inside Passage ) is a coastal sea route of the south-eastern of Alaska and west of the British Columbia. Beginning in north from the American islands from the Archipelago Alexandre, it crosses the talk Détroit of Hecate which marks the américano-Canadian border, passes to the east islands of the Queen-Charlotte, crosses the basin of Queen Charlotte then the succession of straits and passages to the east of the Vancouver Island - strait of the Queen-Charlotte, Détroit of Johnstone, Discovery passage to emerge in the Détroit of Georgia who shelters the port of Vancouver and opens on the Puget Sound and Seattle in the south and the Détroit of Juan de Fuca in the west towards the Pacific Ocean.
It constitutes a way privileges between the Wearing of Vancouver and Seattle towards the south-east of Alaska and thepeaceful one by avoiding difficult water of the Pacifique North-East. It is a way very attended by the boats of cruisings, the tradind ships, the fishing vessels and many the ferries. The term of Inside Passage is also used to indicate the oceanic islands and parts around the passage itself.
The portion alaskane of the passage in north, extends approximately on 800 km from north in the south for 150 km from is in west. The zone includes/understands more than 1000 islands and: 24000 km of very cut out coasts and several thousands of handles and bays mainly. The southernmost part of the passage in British Columbia about similar east of size with more: 40000 km of coasts.
The interior passage is a destination considered for the kayakers and canoeists of the whole world who each year sail along the fjords of British Columbia until Glacier Bay in Alaska. The first course in the kayak solo of the passage was carried out in 1969 by Peter Claghorn.
