Pashko Vasa
Pashko Vasa Shkodrani (1825-1892), known as " Vasa Pacha" or " Wassa Pacha" , Albanian catholic of Shkodër, exerts various official functions within the Ottoman Empire, in particular governor of the autonomous province of Mount-Lebanon of 1883 to 1892. He dies in Beirut the June 29th 1892, and its remainders are repatriated in Shkodër in 1978.
Although incontestably a great figure of the Albanian alarm clock national at the 19th century, Pashko Vasa is also asserted by some like ascent aroumaine, which reflects the complexity of the Balkan identities ethnonationales: many Klephte S (highwaymen), figures of national historiography Greek, are thus asserted like Albanian ascent, one not preventing the other besides.
From 1843 to 1847, he works for the British consulate with Shkodër (city of the north of current the Albania), he learns or perfect his training from Italian, French, Turkish and the Greek. In 1847-1849 it remains in Italy, where it takes part in the anti-Austrian revolutionary insurrections with Venice in May 1849. It is then expelled, as an Othoman subject, towards Constantinople where it lives initially in poverty before engaging in the public office, with the Othoman embassy of London, then in an Othoman mission in Bosnia-Herzégovine (1863-1864), with Alep (current Syria) in 1867, with Varna (current Bulgaria) in 1879, with Beirut (current Lebanon) in 1883.
In 1877, it belongs to the founders of the " Central committee for the defense of the rights of the people albanais" , and in 1878 of the League of Prizren. He writes shortly after (1878-1880) celebrates it nationalist poem, O moj Shqypni (O Albania, poor Albania), preaching the Albanian national unit beyond the religious differences: (extracts)
