Pascal candle
The candle Pascal is large a candle, decorated of a Red Cross, lit in the night of Easter, during the great celebration of Pascale vigil where the Christians celebrate the Résurrection Jesus Christ.
In each angle formed by the arms of this cross, are registered one of the four digits of the year of the year. Above and below the cross, the first letter (Alpha) and the last letter (Omega) of the Greek alphabet is registered, demonstrator who Christ is " beginning and end of all choses".
Rite of fire at Easter
Taken care the Pascale starts with a ritual of the Feu, symbol of the Christ ressuscity who is the light of the world. The priest blesses fire and plants on the cross five grains of Encens symbolizing the five wounds of Christ (with the hands, the feet and the side). Then the Pascal candle is lit with fire and enters at the head the church, still plunged in the darkness, follow-up of the assembly, for the continuation of the celebration.
Use of the Pascal candle
The Pascal candle is then used throughout the year - until the Lent of the following year - for the celebration of the Baptême S, whose liturgy always uses the candle as reference to the mystery of Easter, which is in the middle of the baptism: by the baptism indeed, the new Christian is plunged in the death and the resurrection of Christ.
