Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret

Pascal Adolphe Jean Dagnan-Bouveret , born with Paris the January 7th 1852 and died in Quincey in 1929, is a French painter.

Biography

Wire of a Parisian tailor, it is high with Melun in his grandfather Gabriel Bouveret. In 1869, it will study in Paris in the workshop of Alexandre Cabanel, then with the École of the fine arts near Jean-Leon Gérôme. It meets at that time Jules Bastien-Lepage and Gustave Courtois which becomes his/her friends.

It is classified second with the Prix of Rome in 1876, then share in Franche-Comté where it is devoted to the scenes of the daily life. It remains in the shade of his friend Bastien-Lepage until worms the years 1880, and must await the death of this one so that the public of the living rooms pays attention to him.

From 1885, he often visits the Brittany which will inspire to him by many fabrics. Forgiveness in Brittany will be worth to him a medal of honor to the World Fair of 1889.

In the years 1896-1897, it is attracted more and more by religious subjects and towards the end of its career it carries out especially portraits. It receives the Grand Prix of the World Fair of 1900 for the whole of its work. He is elected member of the Académie of the fine arts on October 27th, 1900.
