Pascal (unit)

See also: Pascal

The Pascal (symbol: Pa ) is the unit IF of Contrainte and Pression. It holds its name of the scientist Blaise Pascal. Plural is pascals .

The constraint is a uniform pressure which, acting on a plane surface of 1 Square meter, exerts perpendicular to this surface a total force of 1 newton.

This unit is expressed in basic units as being the N/m^2 = kg/(s^2*m) .

The Pascal being a relatively small unit compared to the usual values, one uses mainly one of his multiples:
le mégapascal (MPa).

1 MPa = 106 Pa

Conversion towards units out of IF:

1 Pa ≈ 7,500  615·10-3 millimetre of mercury (mmHg, or Torr)

1 Pa ≈ 9,869  233·10-6 atmosphere standard (atm)
1 Pa = 10-5 bar
1 Pa ≈ 1,42·10-4 PSI
