Pasadena
Pasadena is a municipality located at the North-East of Los Angeles and the foot of the mountains of San Gabriel, in the State of California to the the United States. It counts: 134000 inhabitants in 2000. Pasadena is a center of population and culture of the Valley San Gabriel. It is the 8th more big city of the area supervisoriale of Los Angeles and is well-known for the Tournoi of the parade of the pinks and the annual football game with the Pink Bowl.
Geography
The town of Pasadena is located at an altitude of 263 Mr. the area of the Grand Pasadena is limited by the crack Raymond Dike towards the south, the gully Arroyo Seco towards the west, the mountains San Gabriel towards north, and the city Sierra Veined towards the east. According to the Office of the Census of the United States, Pasadena extends on 60 km ².It is located at 16 km in the North-East of the business district of Los Angeles. Around Pasadena eight communes are: South Pasadena, San Marino, Arcadia, Sierra Veined, Cañada Flintridge, Altadena, Glendale, Eagle Rock'n'roll. In spite of the proximity of Los Angeles, Pasadena constitutes a distinct entity thanks to scientific, cultural and educational institutions which are added to many markets and restaurants.
History
Pasadena was populated by the Amerindian of the Hahamog-Na tribe, a branch of the Tongva (linguistic group Shoshoe) around the gully Arroyo Seco. It became Spanish the ground concession Rancho San Pascual, thus called because it was allocated the Easter Day in 1826 in Eulalia Perez de Guillén, a cleaning lady of the Mission San Gabriel. This ranch included/understood neighbors of Pasadena, Altadena and South Pasadena.
Until the annexation of California in 1848, the last of the Spanish owners was the señor Manuel Garfias. It on then the occasion to preserve the ranch jusq' at the moment when California became an independent State, in 1850. It sold parts of the ranch to the first anglophone colonists who settled there, Benjamin Eaton and S. Griffen. Several parts of the ranch were bought by Benjamin Wilson, who establishes Lake Vineyard there. Wilson was also the owner of the ranch of Jurupa (Riverside, Ca) and became the first anglophone mayor of Los Angeles. He was also the grandfather of the famous general of the Second world war George Patton.
In 1873, Wilson accepted the visit of the doctor Mr. Berry, arrived from Indiana. He sought a new place which would offer a better climate for the health of its patients, the majority suffering from respiratory diseases. D Berry suffered itself from asthma, but after three nights of sleep, it felt better. To pile up enough money to make come its patients to California, D Berry establishes Southern California Orange Growers Association and gathered a fortune.
The colonists of Indiana could buy with Mr. Wilson a field towards Arroyo and plant several orchards there. January 31st, 1874, they founded Indiana Colony. The trunk post office arrived at Los Angeles, intended for Indiana Colony. A coed who attended the University of Los Angeles went back each day with the mail there. The colony wished their own post office. The name Indiana Colony had to be changed so that the General of Station can accept it. There was a choice of three names: Indianola, Granada, and Pasadena.
One of the founders, Thomas Elliott, made a report with a friend in Michigan which was missionary of the Chippewa Amerindians in Minnesota. Thomas asked for the translation of “crown of the valley”, “key of the valley”, “valley of the valley”, and “hill of the valley” It accepted the first answer: " Weo-quan passing fancy; But each translation had the " part; passing fancy, " " vallée." The command of the founders chose the beautiful name Pasadena. Pasadena was built-in in March 1886.
Pasadena became an area of attraction during the years 1880 with several real estate. It established there a station of the railroad Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad which contributed to the growth. It also developed large hotels of which the first was the Hotel Raymond worm limited of South-Pasadena. It was located above the hill Bacon Hill, famous Raymond Hill when the large Raymond Hotel is ouvra in 1886.

- Art Center College off Design
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, managed by Caltech on behalf of NASA, comprises many installations in the town of Pasadena, although its principal site is in the city of Canada Flintridge at the North-West of Pasadena.

Tournament of the parade of the pinks
Instituted in 1890, this procession is one of most popular in the United States. Nearly a million spectators has a presentiment of itself at the beginning of January in the streets of the city (especially Colorada Blvd and South orange Grove Blvd) to attend the procession of the tanks decorated with thousands of pinks. Its retransmission by greatest American televisions (ABC in particular) confers a repercussion even more important to him.
Pink Bowl
The parade of the pinks is followed by an American football game putting at the catches the winners of the conferences CAP-10 and Big Ten .
