Party of the popular unit

The Parti the popular unit (PUP) is a political party Tunisia founded N the June 4th 1981.

Recognized the November 19th 1983, it counts 11 deputies with the House of Commons in the districts of Tunis I, Ariana, Manouba, Béja, Sousse, Mahdia, Sidi Bouzid, Sfax I, Sfax II, Gabès and Médenine. It took part in all the legislative elections since 1986.

Its general secretary, Mohamed Bouchiha, presents to the presidential elections 2004 and gains 3,78% of the votes. In 1999, it presents Mohamed Belhaj Amor had gained 0,31% of the suffages.

The PUP claims Socialisme and Arab Nationalisme but is not member of the Internationale Socialist.
