Party of the citizens (Iceland)

The Parti the citizens ( Borgaraflokkurinn ) was a Political party in Iceland of 1987 with 1994.

History

The Party of the citizens was founded by Albert Guðmundsson, a Minister for the Parti independence. Implied in legal proceedings concerning the late maritime company Hafskip, it was constrained by the members of its party to give up its mandate of minister in 1987.

It claqua then the door of its party and founded the Party of the citizens. A big number of members followed it and, at the time of the legislative elections which took place in 1987, the party gained seven seats at the Icelandic Parliament.

In 1989, Albert Guðmundsson gave up the presidency of the party and was named ambassador of Iceland in France. Two of the seven deputies formed their own party then, then reinstated the Party of independence.

The five remaining members formed a government on September 10th, 1989 in coalition with the social democrat Parti, the Alliance of the people and the Parti progress, under the direction of Steingrímur Hermannsson. The coalition lasted until April 30th 1991. The Party of the citizens occupied the posts of minister of Justice and Minister of environment.

Into 1991, the party if was divided that it did not gain the least seat at the Parliament. It ceased its activities in 1994.
