Party of independence and work

The Left independence and work (PIT) is a political party Senegal board, of which the leader is Amath Dansokho, journalist, former minister and mayor of Kédougou.

History

Resulting from the African Left independence (FEEDS) founded in 1957, it is officially created on July 9th 1981.

The PIT takes part in the legislative elections of 1983 and collects 0,55% of the voices without obtaining from seat to the National Assembly. Its person in charge is then Seydou Cissokho. With the legislative elections of 1998 the party obtains a seat. The PIT supports Abdoulaye Wade at the time of the presidential election of 2000 and integrates the government after the victory of this one. But from the disagreements emerge and the PIT is excluded from the new government eight month later.

Consequently the PIT joined the rows of the opposition.

At the time of the legislative elections of 2001, the PIT gains 10.854 votes, that is to say 0,6%, and obtains a seat on the 120 which account then the National Assembly.

It is one of the parties having chosen the Boycott at the time of the legislative elections of 2007.

Orientation

It is a left party of , Communiste in the beginning.

The PIT is presented in the form of a national, democratic and anti-impérialiste. It “bases its action on the scientific socialism and subscribed to the commitment to respect the Constitution and the principles of national sovereignty and the democracy”.

Symbols

Its color is the red. Its flag is also red with in overprinting with the right angle of the upper part a hammer and a hoe.

Organization

Its seat is with Dakar.

The PIT publishes two periodicals, Daan Doole (the Worker), a monthly magazine launched in 1982 and Gestu .
