The Left for work, the Rule of law, the protection of the animals, the elitism and the democratic initiative ( Partei für Arbeit, Rechtsstaat, Tierschutz, Elitenförderung & basisdemokratische Initiative ), which the acronym LEFT ( PARTEI ) was founded in 2004 on the initiative of the German satirical review Titanic . Name “the PARTY” (with the definite article) clearly referred to the sole party of the ex- GDR and to NSDAP of 3rd Reich.

The PARTY proposes in particular to rebuild the Berlin Wall and the borders of GDR. Its federal representative, Martin Sonneborn (editor association of the Titanic ), precise: “We do not want to restore the capital punishment and nobody must be cut down in front of the Wall”. Within this framework, the territory of ex-GDR must become a Special Economic Zone ( Sonderbewirtschaftungszone ) and be “Re-bureaucratisée”.

In May 2005, the PARTY counted approximately 4000 members and presented a list for the elections to the diet of Rhineland-Westphalia, where it obtained 0,016% of the voices. Thereafter, of the local cells were created in the majority of the others Länder. In September 2005, the PARTY took part in the legislative elections in Länder of Berlin and Hamburg, where it respectively obtained 0,4 and 0,3% of the voices (“Its best result since the end of the war”). At the end of the last spot, Sonneborn even promised: “If we lose these elections, we will leave the country immediately. For 19,99 euros”… In an interview granted to the Spiegel after the poll of the September 19th, 2005, Sonneborn declared that the PARTY was the only winner of the elections since it had achieved its goal to prevent at the same time SPD and the CDU to join together a majority of voice.
