Perdrix is the vernacular name of Oiseau X nonmigrating of the Old world which this characterizes, according to Frederic Cuvier by the compressed trachea of back ahead; the last ring produces ahead a species of nozzle going down, to which the cross-piece is attached.

The partridges today designate several members of Perdicinae , but this term indicated various other species like the white Perdrix i.e. the Lagopède with white tail, the Perdrix with white face i.e. the Colombe of Hispaniola. The partridge of the seas is a tern. Other species use a made up name with partridge like the Francolin partridge, the doves partridge…

They are of intermediate size between the large Faisan S and small the Caille S. They nourish seeds on the ground. Several species are driven out for the sport or like Gibier.

Several standardized names of S of Perdicinae derive from the partridge term: Perdicule, Xénoperdrix, Galloperdrix and the kinds Perdicula , Galloperdix , Ammoperdix , Perdix , Margaroperdix , Melanoperdix , Caloperdix .
