Partition of music

A partition is the transcription on paper of the characteristics of the its musical - heights, durations, dynamic, etc -, and their combinations, called to form the framework of the musical work in its temporal unfolding, at the same time diachronic and synchronic - terms borrowed from the Linguistique of Ferdinand de Saussure. The diachronic plan represents the succession of the moments, the melody, the synchronic plan simultaneity, i.e. the Harmonie.

This writing uses certain signs - notes, silences, nuances, etc - intended to plan the musical gesture which will permettera with the interpreter to carry out the work conceived by the Compositeur. The concept of written music is thus opposed to that impromptu music and to that of music of oral tradition.

  • the Classical music is about only whose musical realization rests, almost primarily, on the reading of the partitions. It is with the Moyen-âge that the written Western music was detached from the traditional Musique, with the Gregorian chant, which started by using the Neume S to represent relative heights and durations.

Although the oldest specimens of neumes Latin go at the 7th century and the 8th century, the first indices which can be used to explain them are vague and are at Aurélien de Réomé, at Odon of Cluny, Hucbald - 9th century and 10th century.

  • During centuries, the use of this system of musical transcription improved and complexed, until influencing the evolution of the music itself: starting from the Rebirth, the type-setter is brought to invent only musics “ likely to be noted ”, this, by means of the associated system, namely, the Solfège.

  • a partition can be written for only one part or more. Each vocal part, or instrumental, can according to the case, being carried out by a Soliste or a group of interpreters. In the overall music, the partition of the various instruments - or groups of instruments - contains generally only the part which each group must carry out. The complete partition, called conducting, is usually reserved for only the Leader.
