Partagiciel
A partagiciel ( shareware in English) is a Logiciel owner, protected by the Royalty, who can be used free during a certain period or a certain number of uses. After this period of exemption from payment, the user must remunerate the author if he wants to continue to use the software. During the period of free use, it is possible that certain functions of the software are not available.
Etymology
The word partagiciel is a copy of the English word shareware also very often used in French. Shareware is itself a contraction of share and software . Share results here in contribution . One can also find the term contribuciel , but more rarely.
Frequently made errors
A partagiciel can easily be confused with a Gratuiciel ( freeware ), a Logiciel orphan (abandogiciel or abandonware ) or with a Free software.A partagiciel is not a free software car :
- it is often delivered without its Source code;
- it is not possible to distribute it without that which acquires of it not having to pay a license which explicitly makes it possible to do it.
General information
A partagiciel can be used free and freely during a duration or a number of uses which are indicated by the author. That makes it possible to test the functionalities and to see whether they correspond to its needs.At the end of this trial period, it is possible either to pay a contribution (often moderate) and to continue to use the software, or of the désinstaller. It is also allowed to distribute the software to another person, always for test.
Except the legal use of the product, the payment of the license can also resolve a certain number of functionalities hitherto inaccessible like the Sauvegarde, the regular reception of updated, the Impression and, sometimes, the possibility of contacting the author.
Some partagiciels are Harceliciel S (agaciels, hassleware , nagware , annoyware or guiltware ), which are satisfied to recall with more or less frequent intervals, with the assistance for example of alarms or dialogs, that the trial period fell.
Certain authors ask for only the sending of a postcard like payment of the license, in this case one speaks about Carticiel ( postcardware ). Others suggest simply that the user pours a contribution to the charitable or humane organization of his choice: it is what is called a Caritaticiel ( Donationware ).
Generally conceived by impassioned , the programs diffused in partagiciel are often good level.
Evolution of the concept
The first partagiciels were available in full version and not limited in time. This mode of distribution does not have really fonctionné : the customers continued to use the software without paying it. Since then, the partagiciels evolved/moved in three branches according to the design that in with the author:- the author can choose to maintain the availability of its software in full version and not limited, but to add a recurring message to it (screen of recall, nag screen ) to recall to the user whom it must pay this software if it uses it regularly (see Harceliciel).
- It can prefer to limit the use of its software, by distributing it like a version of démonstration : the use of the software or certain functionalities are blocked after one trial period, in order to force the user to pay the software. Some of these partagiciels (actually, they are versions of demonstration) have functionalities blocked even for the trial period; in this case they are often functions of comfort . They are freed during the payment of the contribution.
- Lastly, it can on the contrary decide that the users are free to choose to pay or not the software, according to the use that they make some.
