Parténia
Parténia is an episcopal see located in Algérie, in the area of Sétif. It disappeared at the end of the 5th century, and one is unaware of his exact localization today. The holder Rogatus was exiled after the invasion of Hunéric.
The episcopal title was restored “ In partibus infidelium ” in 1964 by the the Holy See. Giovanni Fallani and Jose Luis Lacunza Maestrojuán was named with its load in 1964 and 1985.
In 1995, it was granted M {{gr.}} Gaillot at once after this one was discharged from the évêché of Évreux.
Since its nomination, Jacques Gaillot uses this Prélature to communicate, in particular on Internet, in favor of its orientations. The famous bishop nevertheless never went on the supposed place of his seat.
If the press initially spoke about “évêché about sands”, it is that it started by locating Parténia in Mauritania (name of a modern State) by confusing this country with the Roman province of Maurétanie where was indeed this ancient city.
The choice of a city located in Algérie was considered to be unhappy because future Monseigneur Gaillot carried out his military service in this country during the Guerre of Algeria.
