Parrot vasa

The Parrot vasa or Coracopsis vasa (Shaw, 1812) is with the black Perroquet Coracopsis will nigra one of the two species of the kind Coracopsis .

Subspecies

Three subspecies are recognized:
  • Coracopsis vasa vasa (Shaw, 1812) of the east of Madagascar;
  • Coracopsis vasa comorensis (W.K.H. Peters, 1854) of the the Comoros;
  • Coracopsis vasa drouhardi Lavauden, 1929 of the west and the south of Madagascar.

Distribution

This Parrot people Madagascar and the the Comoros. He was introduced with the Réunion (probably the subspecies vasa ) where he is apparently extinct today.

Description

He measures approximately 50 cm. Its plumage is brown dark but slightly paler on the lower parts.

Habitat

Nesting

This species reproduces October at January in the Malagasy west. The nest is installed in the Baobab S in particular. Several nests of different couples can be active in the same tree. Movements

This bird is probably sedentary but local movements, related to the search for food, are observed. Individuals are often noted flying very high with the top of the forests, sometimes with the lunar light.
