Parlophone

Parlophone is a Label discographic, founded in Germany in 1896 per Carl Lindstrom (1869-1932) who was, more than 60 years later, become a division of EMI in Great Britain, the label of the Beatles and appears of this fact at the head of the sales of albums with Sgt. Pepper' S Lonely Hearts Club Band .

History

The British branch of Parlophone was created in 1923 with Oscar Preuss as artistic director and became the principal label of Jazz in the United Kingdom, thanks to its bonds with Okeh records, sister company based with the the United States.

In 1927, Columbia Gramophone Company bought shares of the company of Carl Lindstrom and thus took the control of Parlophone. In 1931, the unit took the name of Electric & Muscial Industries Ltd (EMI)

Under the control of EMI, Parlophone initially remained a label of jazz. In 1950, Oscar Preuss engaged George Martin, 24 years, as assistant. Five years later, Martin succeeded Preuss like owner of the label, when this last took its retirement.

At the dawn of the era of the Rock'n'roll' roll, the Parlophone artists like Humphrey Lyttelton, The Vipers, Jim Paves, Keith Kelly, the Temperance Seven and Shane Fenton from time to time reached signal 20 of the British hit-parade. It is Adam Faith who gained the most notable success at that time.

George Martin and Beatles

The major intuition of George Martin was to locate and engage the Beatles in June 1962, after their manager Brian Epstein failed near the majority of the other companies discographics of the country. After a hearing, on June 6th, 1962, at the conclusion which the owner of Parlophone suggested in Beatles changing beater (those then deciding to replace Pete Best by Ringo Starr), the signature of the group of Liverpool quickly brought international glory to the label.

Thus Parlophone placed 7 “individual” in the first place of the sales during the only year 1964, also holding N°1 of the hit-parades of the albums lasting 40 52 weeks of the year.

In 1965, George Martin decided to become independent producer, and in 1968, Beatles created their own label, Apple.

Parlophone continued as from many groups and artists in its rows, like Queen and nowadays, remaining one of principal divisions of EMI, publishes many works such as those of Radiohead, Coldplay, Lilly Allen, Supergrass, Gorillaz etc…
