Parliament of the experts

the assembly of the experts مجلسخبرگان|Majles-e Khobregān , is made up of 86 religious members elected officials for 8 years by the universal direct suffrage. He elects and revokes the Guide of the revolution. The assembly of the experts has also the capacity, theoretically, to dislocate the supreme guide of her functions, but she is requested very little in this role because of the mandate with life available to the Head of the Iranian State.

The assembly holds two ordinary sessions each year.

Although officially established in the Holy City of Qom, the assembly meets with Teheran and Mashhad. The direct elections of the 86 members of the Parliament are organized every eight years. The last elections took place on December 15th, 2006. The opposition called with the boycott of the poll and treated it electoral joke.

The members are elected for a eight years mandate. Only the monks are authorized to postulate. The candidatures are examined by the Conseil of the Guards.

Since September 4th, 2007, the president of the assembly of the experts is the former president Hachemi Rafsandjani.
