Parking and stop

According to the international convention of Vienna on the road signs of 1968, a vehicle is known as:
  • With the stop ”, when it is immobilized during the time necessary to take or deposit people or to charge or discharge from the things;
  • In parking ”, when it is immobilized for a reason other than the need for avoiding a conflict with another road user or an obstacle or to obey the regulations of the regulation of circulation and than its immobilization is not limited to the time necessary to take or deposit people or things.

The Contracting parties of convention can however regard as “with the stop” the vehicles immobilized under the conditions defined in the section " in stationnement" above if the duration of the immobilization does not exceed a limit of time fixed by the national legislation and to regard as “in parking” the vehicles immobilized under the conditions defined in the section " with the arrêt" above if the duration of the immobilization exceeds a limit of time fixed by the national legislation.

Car park

In the general case, one calls space parking the place reserved for the parking. But in the language running, the word carpark is often employed to indicate these surfaces. Attention not to make confusion with English, the word carpark exists well in English but is a False-friend which is the equivalent of the French word parking. To speak about the parking space, several words are used by the Anglophone S, one finds mainly the terms because park with the the United Kingdom and carpark batch with the the United States; but there also exists of other more specific terms which vary according to the areas.

There exist several structures intended for the parking of the vehicles: underground parks, parks on floors or parks on level, parks on the surface.
