Park of the Sources of the Beaver

The Parc of the Sources of the Beaver is located at Guyancourt in the Yvelines. The Park was drawn by the landscape designer Paul Soun and the architect Bertrand Lemoine in 1975. It is the artist Dani Karavan in the year 1999 which carried out the urban Carré .

Geography

This Park of a surface of 60 hectares ensures the transition between the district strongly urbanized from the Shopping mall from Saint-Quentin in Yvelines and the Valley from the Bièvre site classified since July 7th, 2000. The park ensures also a green connection between the districts of the Park, the Willows and the Wild rabbits.

Urban gardens

The monumental sculptures of Marta Pan even ensures the connection between the shopping mall him and the entry of the Park of the Sources of the Beaver. Three sculptures compose this advance: engouffrements, steps and the Outline.

The engouffrements are located vis-a-vis the church Saint-Quentin-the-Sources of Montigny-le-Bretonneux. The engouffrements consist of three symbols: the square, the round and the triangle which in the Asian culture mean: universe, ground and the thought.

It is Boulevard Vauban, between the building of the communication of Massimiliano Fuksas and the college library of Guyancourt of the architects J. Ripault and D. Duhart that the main door of the Park with the continuity of works of Martan Pan is located: steps and the Prospect (see image Ci against).

It is while following the water which escapes from the sculptures of Marta Pan that one will discover the Park of the sources of the Beaver. After Marta Side, it is Dani Karavan which puts in scene the urban Carré . It was envisaged intialement into 1988 to make carry out by Karavan a white tower great height, provided with an elevator and making it possible to the visitors to discover and the valley town suit of the Beaver. This installation was finally abandoned taking into account the operation and capital costs. Dani Karavan it is then directed in 1999, towards a more traditional installation organized around water connecting the Prospect for Marta Pan and the buildings university (Gardens of the University) to precursory natural spaces of the valley of the Beaver.

In the Park of the Sources of the Beaver, in addition to the Prospect for Marta Side and the urban Square of Dani Karavan, from many sculptures carried out into 1977 comes to consolidate this installation: the bird of the Rumanian sculptor Romance Victor , sculpture out of brass of Patrick Guérard, Ascendance obliques of Bérard, steel sculpture of Marcel Dupertuis, gray marble Fontaine of Ladislas Schwartz.

While advancing in the Park, the environment appears " more and more; naturel". To the current, the walker leaves the city to join the city park with the Gardens of the University and the Gardens of the Park then, the pond of Roussières in the district of the Wild rabbits which provides a space which seems “natural”.

These urban gardens are bordered by several buildings produced by architects of reputation:

Massimiliano Fuksas built, in 1991, " Edison" , the House of the Communication,
Dominique Perrault built into 1991 of the residences, this arhitecte acquired very young person an international repute by gaining the contest of the Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand of Paris in 1989.
Antoine Grumbach realized in 1993 then in 2002, the university buildings,
Jacques Ripault and Denise Duhart realized in 2005 the college library of Guyancourt.
Jean-Marie Charpentier carried out two office buildings near the park.

The Garden of the Park, vis-a-vis the district of the Park, presents to him also ludic installations; a vegetable labyrinth, spaces of plays for the children, a rosery… the whole organized around an urban watermark.

Natural spaces

Finally the pond of Roussières, which has a surface of 5,20 hectares, finishes the park. This pond was carried out in the years 1970, its function first being to control rain water, of the residential areas. In period of strong rains, this water is stored in the pond. Then in period of dryness this rainwater is rejected into the bed of the Beaver located downstream from the pond.

The Wood of Roussières, located on its banks, is currently managed by the National office of the forests (ONF). This wood is already announced within Intendance of 1787, it is called there " plan of Trou". In the same way one finds from this point of view of Intendance the 2 small water ponds which always exist with the foot of the vegetable labyrinth.

In continuity of this wood, the Garden of the Aqueduct of a surface of 1,30 hectare ensures the junction with the district of the Willows. This Garden is established with the top of the Aqueduct which made it possible to bring water since the pond of the Étang of Saint-Quentin Trap door-in-Yvelines to the park of the castle of Versailles, from where its denomination. From this Garden of the Aqueduct, it is possible to join thanks to a footbridge pedestrian, the Hamlet of Bouviers where the source of the Beaver is.
