The park of Thabor , with Rennes, is a garden arranged on more than 10 hectares between 1860 and 1867 in the place of the orchard contiguous to the Benedictine abbey Saint Melaine, near the hyper center of Rennes. Its name refers to a calcareous mountain of Israel dominating in South-west the lake of Tibériade, the mount Thabor (in Arab Djabal Tür or Thabur ).

This zone was the orchard of the abbey at the beginning of the 17th century then transformed into public walk reserved with the men. In second half of the 18th century one decided to increase it and to refit it so that it benefits the middle-class which starts to settle in the neighborhoods.

Installation was entrusted to the landscape designer Denis Bühler and the realization of the greenhouses, the birdcage, the grids, the orange grove and the bandstand with the architect Jean-Baptiste Martenot. The large staircase at the entry in the beginning was designed for the walk of the Contour of the Mound by Millardet in 1829, before being moved at the end of the 19th century.
