Park of Poitiers
The station of Poitiers is an important railway station of the area Poitou-Charentes, located at 1:30 in TGV of Paris and Bordeaux; it is also connected to the towns of La Rochelle and Limoges like to the Futuroscope.
History
The town of Poitiers was served by the railroad as of 1851 because of its position on the Ligne Paris-Bordeaux. This line was built by two different companies and was opened in several stages. While the part Paris - Orleans returned to the Compagnie of the railroad from Paris to Orleans, the section Orleans - Bordeaux was allotted to the Company of the railroad from Orleans to Bordeaux. The station of Poitiers is inaugurated the July 15th 1851 at the time of the opening of the section Tours - Poitiers. The section of Poitiers to Angouleme is open 2 years later making it possible to connect Poitiers to Bordeaux (the latter being connected to Angouleme since 1852).
the lines between Poitiers and La Rochelle and Poitiers and Limoges are open in 1857 and 1867 respectivement.
the ways were electrified in 1938.
