Situation and Presentation
The station of Lyon-Saint-Paul is located in the 5th district of Lyon, with the foot of the hill of Fourvière, vis-a-vis the Saone, with the northern entry of the district of the Old man-Lyon. It is a terminal assigned to the service road of the western suburbs of Lyon, which sees passing to each day on average 5500 travellers (gone up/exits from the train). This station was at the same time open as the line Lyon-Healthy Beautiful, in 1876, contruite by the Company of Dombes and South-east. The station comprised 6 ways with quay initially, in 3 beams of 2, for the passenger traffic, more of the ways of overflow for a small activity of transport. There remain only the 4 center lanes today about it: ways B (168m), C (173m), D (170m) and E (169m), space goods being replaced by a carpark and a terminus of bus.
The station of Lyon Saint Paul is the station terminus of the line Lyon-Healthy-Beautiful. This line equipped in Luminous Automatic block, exploited in IPCS (double-way) from Lyon Saint Paul in Lyon Throat-of-Wolf, then in standardized single track of Throat-of-wolf to Healthy-Beautiful, was electrified in D.C. current 1500V in 1954, during the completion of the Paris-Lyon line in 1954. However the electrification is limited to Charbonnières, and was not exploited any more but by motorized elements diesels as from 1984 (currently only composed of X 4630). In addition a connection towards the station of Vaise allows a service road in direction of the valley of the Saone, but it is not used any more in passenger traffic. This connection however is used by the SNCF to convey in Lyon Saint Paul the oars of empty travellers coming from the deposit of Vaise, specialized in motorized thermics).
