Park of Ciutadella
The Park of Ciutadella is a park located in the town of Barcelona in Spain. It shelters in its center of the governmental buildings such as the Parlement of Catalogne, of the museums like the Museum of Modern art and zoological gardens.
Ciutadella was a citadel built at the beginning of the XVIIIe century following the War of succession. The bourbons then needed to sit their capacity in Catalonia and did it thanks to the troops of the citadel. One century and half hardly after its construction, the city saw violent riots repressed in blood by the Spanish army. In 1843 and after two months of strikes and demonstrations, Barcelona is victim of bombardments since the hill of Montjuic and which destroyed Ciutadella.
In 1888, Barcelona accommodated the World Fair where it took seat in the park of Ciutadella. To mark the entry of the exposure, it was decided to build the Triumphal arch of Josep Vilaseca I Estapà.
