The Gare of North to Brussels ( Brussel-Noord ) is one of the three larger Gare S of the town of Brussels with the Central station and the Gare of the South what enables them to form a good service road of the center of the city.
This station is located in the district of the Affaire S is being an important starting point for the visitors of the Center-ville.
Contrary to the station of the South, largely reorganized during the contemporary time for the arrival of the international express trains, the station of North kept its materials and its decorative elements of origin, emphasized during a recent restoration. Only the extention carried out in the years 1980, composed of trade and offices, came to denature this particularly remarkable work of the railway architecture of the immediate post-war period. The station, contrary there too with that of midday, kept its tower of origin, at the top of which throne a clock.
History
The first station was located on the Place Rogier and was called the station of Brussels-Groendreef. From this station in 1835, the first train rolled on a way of railroad on the European continent . The first stone of the station was posed the September 28th 1841 by the king Léopold I and was inaugurated in March 1846. This one counted 27 ways.In 1952, a new station has took again the old one which was located on the Rogier place and this one was demolished in 1955.
Today
The station accommodates nearly 200.000 passengers Hebdomadaire S who use it especially to leave abroad.In theory, all the international and national trains stop at this station except the trains at high speed. This one is especially used thanks to the terminus of the line of North-South prémétro, the stops of Bus of the STIB and of De Lijn. More than 30 regional buses leave from here and leave in direction all the cardinal points.
Neighborhood
The station is located in the middle of the district of businesses called " Space Nord". In the corner, many important buildings are accommodating the seat of Belgacom, the Flemish ministry and the service of the registrations.Just at with dimensions is located the known Rue of Aerschot for its Prostituée S.
Station of prémétro/subway
Below the western wing of the station the station of Prémétro is same name. This station was opened to the public the October 4th 1976 and forms the end of the line of prémétro. From the station, it is possible to reach the station by the Escalier or Escalator of each with dimensions of the quay. At the north of the station, along the street of Progress the exit of the tunnel of the prémétro is where the line continues after having passed the Thomas stop.
