Park celebration

Celebration Park is an exposure multimedia of Pierre Huyghe prepared in 2005 and presented to the Musée of modern art of the town of Paris and the Tate Modern to London between February and September 2006.

This Exposition takes the shape of a disconcerting course because not complying with the rules of exposure which are the time and contents, unity of place. Indeed, the works presented in the exposure do not have an obvious unit, the work of the artist unceasingly experienced new space and temporal possibilities of presentation of works while calling into question the codes hitherto established.

The monumental automatic doors, which during the Prolog were laid out with the limits of the Musée, are integrated fully into the exposure. They move according to curves, at a good distance from the ground. Thus work questions the concepts of interior and outside and more generally that of space.

This film is designed starting from a puppet show putting in scene alternatively the architect Le Corbusier when it builds the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts with Harvard in 1965, and Pierre Huygue who must answer him an order placed for this same institution.

This film is assembled starting from the images carried out during two artistic experiments related one to the other:
  1. in February 2005, Pierre Huygue leaves with other artists to the Antarctic to research a new island in a zone not charted, where viverait a single animal
  2. this forwarding gives place to the creation of a musical production ( negative Double ) with New York on the skating rink of Central Park. A symphonic Orchestre plays there a partition which is the sound transposition of the Topographie of the island discovered ( the island of idleness )

Simultaneously with the projection of film, two works are presented:

  1. Terra Incognita/Isla Ociosidad , 2006,
can be only seen through a hole in a wall: it is about a structure conceived by Pierre Huygue with the agency of architects R&Sie (N). This work gives to see a relief which evokes that of the discovered island, incarnation of the " ailleurs" possible.

Concurrently to this structure is presented a " animatronique" that one can see in film and who represents the idea of the imagined single animal which was one of the motivations of forwarding.

  • One Year Celebration , 2003-2006

They are posters fixed on the wall which constitutes a calendar where each day is one day of celebration, celebration invented by artists to which Pierre Huygue made the request of it. This work thus proposes another design of time with its new characteristics.

  • In the same part - whose wall is glazed as One Year Celebration , one finds thousand specimens of diaries piled up in the middle of the ground. It is also about a work which evokes the subjective perception of time by each one.
