Park TGV-Futuroscope

The station of the Futuroscope is a railway station located in the French department of the Vienna, between the stations of Poitiers and Châtellerault.

The station

Drawn by the Architect French Denis Laming, the station was open the June 13rd 2000.

In form of Triangle " half-carré" of approximately 70 meters on side, the station is a big space of glass protected by a roof of aerodynamic form, suggesting speed, the voyage. The Hypotenuse of the triangle, directed in South-west, allows a good sunning of the interior steps in full day. A footbridge located contrary to the quays, on the basis of the western top of the Triangle, allows an direct access in two minutes with the Park of the Futuroscope by the crossing-over of Main road 10, emerging between the Omnimax and the Pavillon of the Robots.

Established on a traditional railway (the Line Paris - Bordeaux), the station however is exclusively served by TGV, about thirty per day. Nevertheless, the multitude of the railway travellers towards the Futuroscope proves much weaker than envisaged before the creation of the station. This weak frequentation generated in a few years the closing of the shops within the station, only the ticketting of the Park of the Futuroscope, close to the footbridge, as well as service of Gare travel goods shop - Hotels still exist.
