Jean Pattou conceived the station like a well of light, of which three side are occupied by a fresco recovering all the height and the width of the wall and representing the wonders of the world: one can recognize the towns of Berlin, London and Brussels on the Northern wall, the towns of Paris, Rome and Athens on the wall Is and Toulouse, Barcelona, New York on the Southern wall. The architect dedicated his work to Jean-Baptiste Piranèse, architect and engraver who lived and worked in Rome at the XVIIIe century.
