Park Chung-hee (born the September 30th 1917 and deceased the October 26th 1979), was president of the South Korea of 1963 with 1979. It had two other names under the Japanese occupation: Takaki Masao and Okamoto Minoru.
Having formed a communist cell within the South Korean army, it tried to raise a group of young officers and was condemned to death, then pardoned, in 1948 (source: to see Eric Bidet, " South Korea. Social economy and company civile" , Harmattan/Innoval, 2003, p. 77, referring to Mr. Breen, " The Koreans" , Orion Books Business, London, 1998). It then betrayed his communist colleagues in the army (see).
Park took then the head of a military coup d'etat which reversed the civil government in 1961. Following the pressures of the administration Kennedy, a civil government was restored. Park gained the elections of 1963 and was 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th president of South Korea.
Although it is generally considered that Park played a role-key in the economic development of South Korea, by privileging exports, which supported the industrialization of the country, its authoritative tendencies were unpopular. Under his government, one saw the development of the chaebol (jaebeol) , companies family whose system is similar to that of the Zaibatsu Japan board. One counts, inter alia, among these companies, Hyundai, LG and Samsung.
It standardized the relations with Japan in 1965. This treaty was very badly accommodated and caused a generalized agitation because the Japanese misdeeds of the Second world war were still too present in the spirits of both Corées. Nevertheless, while renonçant with the war reparations and the excuses in exchange of investments, Park allowed the arrival of Japanese capital in the country.
In spite of the dictatorial mode and important inflation while it was with the capacity, Park does not incur the accusations of corruption of the soldiers who succeeded to him. Indeed, he considered that it was important that it has an austere lifestyle if he wanted to ask the citizens and citizens sacrifices for the future posterity. He got dressed simply and mixed his rice with barley to save it.
After almost ten years with the capacity, in an electoral mode which saw Park gaining accuracy a very tight presidential election against Kim Dae-Jung in 1971, Park founded the state of emergency and adopted the Constitution yusin in 1972, which transformed indeed the presidency into legal dictatorial mode. Many fringes of the South Korean population were diverted of him following this action.
As from 1973, it launches a conversion program forced of the political prisoners, to which communist prisoners as IH In-Mo refused to subject themselves.
The August 15th 1974, an attempted murder by Moon -gwang (문세광) (an agent North-Korean according to Seoul) failed, but caused the death of his wife Yuk Yeong-known. Park itself was assassinated the October 26th 1979 by Kim Jae-kyu (김재규), her old friend, then with the head of KCIA (Korean Central Agency Intelligence), the South Korean secret police.
