Park Chambéry-Shawl-the-Water
Chambéry - Shawls Water is the name of the railway Gare TGV the SNCF of Chambéry, Savoy, France. It holds its second name of Challes Water , like many stations, of one of the multiples common S surrounding the Ville, and known in the area for its Thermalisme.
The station comprises today 5 ways double-direction for the rise and the descent of the Passager S, noted has with E, as well as a way in named dead end way 4, and newcomer of Lyon, in the west. It has 3 in addition quay S, numbered from 1 to 3:
-
quay 1 allows the rise and the descent of the Train S located on the ways has and 4.
- quay 2 allows the rise and the descent of the Train S located on the ways B and C.
- quay 3 allows the rise and the descent of the Train S located on the ways D and E.
It allows junction between Aix-the-Baths, Annecy, Geneva and Lyon with Northern and with western (even if Annecy and Geneva are a little more in the east), like that between Grenoble, Modane, Albertville and Borough-Saint-Maurice with the southern and the is. So and logically, way 4 can serve in no way these last stations, in the south and the east, this one coming from the North-West and finishing in station.
Its rather recent appearance (contrary to good number of other stations) is due to the fact that this one was mainly rebuilt of 1985 to 1988, in the fields of the architects Chanéac and Deyris. Although its external walls are tiled and its heights covered with glass, the old station remains but it is masked by the new buildings.
History
The station of Chambéry was built in 1856. At the time, the locomotive with vapor only circulated on the beginnings of sections of ways, in particular on the line for Lyon.
With the years, the station increases, other ways were installation, and with a Faisceau conceived to park rolling stock, and in particular the Wagon S of Marchandise S, this one made soon a small beam of sorting.
In 1906, with an aim of being able, in addition to the cars and coaches, to park the engines to allow that those " reposent" a little at the time of their arrival from Lyon, before setting out again in the valleys or towards Grenoble, important a Rotonde was built. It is surmounted by an articulated metal frame of 108m of Diamètre and it is one of rare in France, built at the same time with really being of 360°. It is classified today in the inheritance and historic buildings of the town of Chambéry. This rotunda very of Iron and Métal was assembled within Gustave Eiffel, and has today only its Coupole and its Mur S of origin, of important work of rehabilitation having been carried out since the years 2000, and completed there is less than 2 years hardly (the colors are not the same ones). This work proved all the more necessary as the rotunda seriously started to take more and more the Eau in the event of Pluie, and deteriorating of this fact rolling stock stationed below.
With the rotunda the EMM (Maintenance and Maintenance of the Material) or the engines was also assembled is checked and/or repaired in the event of breakdowns. One can see it on photography opposite, in front of the rotunda, with the initially red roof, then gray with windows with squares.
At the time of the Bombardment of May 26th, 1944, where the Americans had order to release bends S on the station to prevent the Germans from going to Italy, the beam was very damaged and the SNCF lost 45 engines there. However, it is not the majority of the bombs which exploded on the station, insofar as top of their apparatuses, the Americans had taken the Leysse (the Rivière Chambéry beam) for the way of railroad, and thus many others in the downtown area threw some.
It finally was registered with the additional Inventaire of the historic buildings in 1984 and its centenary was celebrated at the time of the day of the inheritance of the Sunday September 24th of this year 2006.
Today
The rotunda makes it possible to park good about thirty engines, and in a general way, it has always at least 20% of the occupied places. It returns only the electric locomotive , the Diesel loco sleeping they, either outside, or under another small shelter located just behind the rotunda (see the photo preceding one). The engines have for " ordre" not to remain more than 24 hours without rolling, unless those should not pass by the EMM to be made check or repair.
The beam allows, in addition to the parking and the unloading of the goods trucks, to park the cars travellers for the time being being used for no train. 2 or 3 ways of the beam are reserved besides for the cleaning and emptying of the dustbins, of which another company is occupied. In the event of oars TGV in too present in the area, the station of Chambéry thus allows their parking in waiting of an other train or an increase Paris Gare de Lyon mainly.
The grill , beside the rotunda, is also used to park BB 36200-300 and them cars being used to place the truck drivers during the way in the train of their goods on the laison Aiton - Turin, carried out by the projects alpine Rail expressway and Modalohr.
