Parity (sociology)
See also: Parity
In Sociology, the principle of parity has as a project to fight against a disparity as well in the field of the representativeness in the institutions as in the wages.
Noting that certain social categories undergo a strong disparity between their basic number and their elected representatives, and that there exists sometimes a handicap of remuneration in occupied employment, in particular in the public sector, the principle of parity tries by laws to rectify this form of injustice.
Some examples
-
Within the framework of the defense of the women's rights, the concept of parity was advanced to defend the organized equality of many seats or of stations occupied by the men and the women in institutions (public or deprived) which revealed a discrimination in fact. Thus one speaks about parity in a political party, at the National Assembly, in a profession.
- One can give the example between the French-speaking people and the Dutch-speaking ones in certain Belgian institutions. The parity applies then in the context suitable for the Bilinguisme.
- In Norway since 2006, only the companies having a board of directors (CA) composed of at least 40% women will be able to be registered with the register of the public limit companies.
One speaks also sometimes about the principle of parity to indicate the Paritarisme, which consists of the coadministration of an organization by an equal number representatives of the employees and employers.
