Parish of the Rise

The parish of Rise (English: Ascension Parish ) is one of the 19 historical parishes of the Louisiana starting from January 1st 1807 whereas the Louisiana did not constitute a American State yet but only one territory (the Territoire of Orleans) of the Union.
The parish is named in the honor of the Ascension of the Lord. It is one of the 22 parishes of the official area of the Acadiane.
The parish has a surface of 755 km ² of emerged ground and 29 km ² of water. It is wedged between the Paroisse of Baton-Rouge East in the North-West, the Paroisse of Livingston in the North-East, the Paroisse of Saint-Jean-Baptist to the extreme is, the Paroisse of Saint-Jacob in south-east, the Paroisse of the Assumption in south-west and the Paroisse of Iberville in the west.
Ten highways square the parish: a Federal highway (U.S. Highway) n° 61, highways of Louisiana (Louisiana Highway) n° 1,10,16,18,22,30,42 and 44 as well as a regional highway (Interstate) 10.
Demography
At the time of the census of the year 2000, the 77.627 inhabitants of the parish were divided into 77,39% of “White”, 20,28% of “Blacks” and Afro-Américains, 0,27% of Amerindian, 0,34% of Asiatique S, 0,03% of Polynésie NS and Mélanésie NS like 0,99% of not indexed so above and 0,70% métissées people.The parish counted 2,76% which speaks the French or the French cajun at the house, that is to say 1.944 people speaking at least once per day the “language about Molière”.
In the parish, the population pyramid (always in 2000) was presented as follows:

23.366 people were the minor ones (less than 18 years) that is to say 30,10%;

The Middle Age of the citizens of the parish was thus 32 years, moreover, the parish counts 39.425 people of female sex (either 50,79%) and 38.202 people of male sex (or 49,21%).
The average revenue by anybody amounts to $44 288 (in 2006) whereas 12,90% of the inhabitants live under the poverty line (federal index).
The parish is divided into three cities and villages: Donaldsonville, Gonzales and Sorrento.
