Parish of Caddo

The parish of Caddo (English: Caddo Parish ), in Louisiana, was created by scission of the Paroisse of Natchitoches in 1838.

The parish has a surface of 2.285 km ² of emerged ground and 142 km ² of water.

It is wedged between the county of Cass (Texas) in the North-West, the county of Miller (Arkansas) in north, the county of Lafayette (Arkansas) in the North-East, the Paroisse of Bossier in the east, the Paroisse Red River in south-east, the Paroisse of Soto in the south, the county of Panola (Texas) in south-west and the counties of Harrison (Texas) and of Marion (Texas) in the west.

Last nine highways square the parish: federal highways (U.S. Highway) n° 71,79,80,171, highways of Louisiana (Louisiana Highway) n° 1 and 2 as well as the regional highways (Interstate) 20,49 and 220.

Demography

At the time of the census of 2000, the 252.161 inhabitants of the parish were divided into 52,91% of “White”, 44,60% of “Blacks” and Afro-Américains, 0,39% of Amerindian, 0,69% of Asiatique S, 0,03% of Polynésie NS and Mélanésie NS like 0,42% of not-indexed so above and 0,96% métissées people.

The parish counted 0,82% which speaks the French or the French cajun at the house, that is to say 1.944 people speaking at least once per day the “language about Molière”.

In the parish, the population pyramid (always in 2000) was presented as follows:

  • 67.580 people were the minor ones (less than 18 years) that is to say 26,80%;

  • 25.720 people were young adults (from 18 to 24 years) that is to say 10,20%;

  • 69.092 people were young labor forces (from 25 to 44 years) that is to say 27,40%;

  • 55.475 people were growing old labor forces (from 45 to 65 years) that is to say 22,00%;

  • 34.294 people were people in retirement age (more than 65 years) that is to say 13,60%.

The Middle Age was thus 35 years, moreover, the parish counted 132.926 people of female sex (either 52,71%) and 119.235 people of male sex (or 47,29%).

The average revenue by anybody amounts to $31 467 (in 2006) whereas 21,10% of the inhabitants live under the poverty line (Fédéral index).

The parish is divided into 11 cities and villages: Belcher, Blanchard, Gilliam, Greenwood, Hosston, Ida, Mooringsport, Oil City, Rodessa, Shreveport and Vivian.
