Paris Violence

Paris Violence is a group of Punk/Oi! French (Paris).

Biography

Paris Violence is a single group in the French punk scene as well by the quality of its texts as by the originality of its music. Formed in 1994 around Flav (guitarist, singer, author and type-setter), the project knew various formations including two years in solo before Spirou (ex Molodoï) does not join the project. Exceptionally prolix, Paris Violence produced many discs on all the formats (LP, CD, EP, 10') including four albums ( Temps of Crisis in 1998, Mourir in November in 2000, the age of Ice in 2001, While waiting for the Apocalypse in 2003). The first years of the group (1994-1999) see the assertion of a cold and mechanical style inspired by Urbain Metal, groups Chaos Production of the beginning of the year 1980 or realistic rock'n'roll of Pigalle or the Déglinguée Mouse. The sound is voluntarily rough and violent one, on compositions often in minor mode which are not without pointing out certain old men groups Oi! English like Angelic Upstarts, Blitz or Peter & the Test Tubes Babies. The texts are characterized by their nihilism despaired directly influenced by the style of Louis-Ferdinand Céline, describing Paris of greyness and trouble straight left a board of Jacques Tardi. The topic of the commercial sex, the sex shops and the peep-shows of the Parisian hot districts reinforce the oppressive environment of these distressed introspections. With the second and third album, melody research is done more thorough, in particular by the use of synthetizers which come more and more to pack the pieces and accentuate the new-wave influences and cold-wave group. Historical topics like the war of 14-18 (“In the Barbed wires”, “the Way of the Ladies”), the cold war (“Budapest 56”, “Return to Budapest”, “Tank”), the Parisian revolutions of the XIX° century (“Reason of State”) or the Russian civil war (“Of Vodka and Blood”, “Ungern-Sternberg”) are also frequently approached with romanticism. Other original sets of themes like the depths ( abyssal Nightmare ) or traditional Japan ( floating Worlds ) shell the later discs. Lastly, the album While waiting for the Apocalypse is a declining work drawing its inspiration in the writers end-of-century, breaking definitively with the usual stereotypes of the punk scene and skin. The sound as for him grew rich by tonalities heavy metal, atmospheric and symphonic on a streetpunk/oi basis! Let us note the omnipresence of literary references, of Baudelaire to Mishima while passing by Cioran, Musset, Honore de Balzac, Montherlant, Jacques Prevel, Louis Aragon, Lorrain, Maurice Rollinat, Rachilde… which consciously give an “intellectualist” side to the unit. The group does not claim itself of any ideological tendency, its thought being able more to be defined as an individualism and a pessimism assumed more near to the philosophy of Nietzsche than of that of Rousseau, and practitioner readily a criticism sour of the modern world and useless Service”, “consumer society (“the Twilight of the Idols”, “Not-in conformity”.
