Paris Match
Paris Match is a Magazine Hebdomadaire French of current events and images, born in 1949 and famous for its currency: “The weight of the words, the shock of the photographs”.
The title belongs to the press group Hachette Filipacchi Médias (HFM), itself subsidiary of the Groupe Lagardere.
History
Paris Match is created, in 1949, by the industrialist and press baron Jean Prouvost. It draws its origin from an older title, Match , a sporting weekly magazine taken again in 1938 by Jean Prouvost, who had transformed it into news magazine the following year. Match cease to appear during the Second world war. It reappears in 1949 pennies the title Paris Match . The formula of the new magazine takes as a starting point that of the American review Life : a magazine of information on the topicality, with great reports and much of exclusive Photography S. The number one appears on March 25th, 1949, with Winston Churchill in cover. The title is a great success until the end of the Années 1950. Then, the sales drop with the wire of time, undergoing the competition of new weekly magazines and television. The diffusion passes from 1 800 000 specimens in 1958 with less 600 000 in 1975.
In 1976, the magazine is taken again by Daniel Filipacchi, which had been Photographe at the beginning of career there. Roger Thérond returns as director of the drafting, function which it had already occupied of 1962 to 1968, and which it will leave only in 1999. Under its direction, Paris Match joins again with success and the sales progress again. That which one had called “the Eye” withdraws at 74 years. Alain Genestar succeeds in July 1999 to him.
Paris Match is, still today, a title of the group of press Hachette Filipacchi Médias, itself subsidiary of the Groupe Lagardere. The diffusion paid in France reached more than 605.000 specimens in 2006 (source: Office of Justification of the Diffusion).
Leading line
Magazine of information, Paris Match covers the national topicality and international, by seeking the “Scoop” in images. There remains an outlet for the photographic agencies and the Photojournalisme of Grand report. However, the weekly magazine has a facet Show biz and “very marked Presse people”. The life of the celebrities and the stereotypes of Paparazzi form a major share of the leading line.

The Sarkozy businesses
The August 25th 2005, Paris Match carries out its best sales of the year by publishing in cover the photograph of Cécilia Sarkozy in company of her lover, the advertizing executive Richard Attias, with New York.
Arnaud Lagardere, owner of the magazine and personal friend of Nicolas Sarkozy, is prevented cover only once the printed magazine. The direction of the Groupe Lagardere enters then in conflict with Alain Genestar, director of the publication of Paris Match , and ends up laying off it in June 2006 .
A polemic is followed from there on the role of Nicolas Sarkozy in this dismissal. Indeed, if this last on several occasions affirms “not to be any responsible in this decision”, Alain Genestar declares in the World that “the Minister of Interior Department, when he affirms not to have nothing to do with my dismissal, does not say the truth.” . This cover would have indeed caused the anger of Nicolas Sarkozy, who would have obtained the departure of Genestar.
This dismissal after twenty last years with the drafting, passes badly near his/her colleagues. In sign of protest, those ceased working on June 29th, 2006, by estimating that this dismissal was related to " reasons politiques". It is about the second strike in the history of Paris Match , the first having taken place in May 1968. As a sign of appeasing, it is Olivier Royant, an appreciated member of the personnel and previously assistant editor of the drafting, which was named to replace Alain Genestar, on July 24th, 2006.
Improved photograph
Paris-match was blamed to have improved in its edition of August 9th, 2007 a photograph of the holidays of Nicolas Sarkozy, where a pad with the size was masked. The final improvement of this photograph would have been made of the own boss of the magazine.
The Holland business/Royal
According to The Telegraph taking again the remarks of Raphaëlle Bucket, Ségolène Royal had intervened with Paris Match to obtain the reference of a journalist, Valerie Trierweiler, had presented like l'" amie" of François Holland.
