Paris-Nice

Paris-Nice is a race cyclist with stages. The race, called the “Race with the Sun”, is an appointment of opening of the international season cyclist.

History

Paris-Nice is created in 1933 by Albert Lejeune, director of the newspaper the Small Newspaper . The departure of the first stage is given on March 14th at 5 o'clock in the morning, places from Italy (13th district of Paris). The race proceeds each year until in 1939. Stopped by the war, it will begin again only in 1951 (+ an edition in 1946) under the name of “Paris-Coast-in Azur”. Become again " Paris-Nice" in 1954, the race is run on a course Paris - Nice - the Rome in 1959 (longest of the editions: 1 954,8 km).

In 1966, the race is the theater of a competition Raymond Poulidor - Jacques Anquetil, which divides France.

Starting from 1969, the arrival is judged in top of the Col of Èze (nowadays, the arrival is judged on the Promenade of the English to Nice).

In 1988, the Irishman Sean Kelly is essential for the 7th time in 7 years (it always holds the record of victories).

In 2000, the old runner Laurent Fignon becomes organizer of the test. But in 2002, it resells Paris - Nice at the organizing company of the Tour de France (ASO).

In 2003, the race is marked by the death of the Kazakh runner Andrei Kivilev, after d´une falls at the time of the second phase, newcomer with Saint-Etienne. Kivilev did not carry a helmet. He dies in the night, and, the following day, the whole group is d´accord to neutralize the third stage, run at very slow intervals and without the least attack. The race takes again its normal turning at the time of the fourth stage arriving at the Mont Faron, which sees the victory of the compatriot of Kivilev Alexandre Vinokourov as a recluse, who holds up a photograph of his friend deceased while passing the line.

  • 1997: Luca Colombo, Erwann Menthéour and Mauro-Antonio Santamirota excluded for rate from hématocrites out-standards
  • 2003: Vincente David Bernabeu Armengol, and Rui Lavarinhas, controlled positive
