Pargny-sur-Saulx

Pargny-sur-Saulx is a common French, located in the department of the Marne and the area Champagne-Ardenne.

Geography

Pargny-sur-Saulx is located in the Marne. The village is crossed by the ornain, the saulx and the Channel of the Marne in the Rhine. It is located between three cities: Vitry-le-François, Saint-Dizier and Bar-le-Duc. The railroad passes by the village, which is also crossed by D995.

History

The manufacture of bricks and tiles is in Pargny on Saulx, an old activity. The Archive S attest presence of Tuilerie S Briqueterie S at the beginning of the 19th century. They were small units in matter family and seasonal. One can really speak about industry only starting from the installation of the factory Gilardoni with the Wood of the King who manufactures mechanically in greater quantity and all the year of the interlocking roof tiles less expensive than the others. The company Gilardoni Frères which had a factory with Altkirch, with Dannemarie is installed in 1873 with Pargny on Saulx. The loam pits are close, the channel of the Marne to the the Rhine passes to Pargny and the railroad too. After 1850, this tile is the leading product of industrial tileries. Only tilery Huguenot and tilery Simonnet can make the required investments to produce this tile a steam engine to crush and mix the ground in order to obtain a soft paste which one can mould and a Four Hoffmann for a continuous cooking. During two thirds of the 20th century, these three factories are very active and employ several hundreds of workmen. Many a quoted working and even a Chapelle are built. A co-operative for the purchase of the food products of first need is made up. In 1975, the firm factory Simonnet, it will be demolished in the years 1990. In 1986, Huguenot which had joined Fénal and had entered the Imétal group takes again the Tuilerie S Gilardoni. The Imétal group become Imérys roof today employs two hundred people.

Artist " libre" , some of its achievements of which in particular premonitory work " the fall of the Berlin Wall " , were preceded many times. Its sculptures on eggs of ostriches, true small jewels, also attract many visitors.
